UNICEF’s Gender Action Plan (GAP) 2014-2017 specifies how UNICEF will promote gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, across all of its work at the global, regional and country levels. The GAP framework tracks progress on gender priorities and gender mainstreaming within UNICEF outcome areas Health; HIV and AIDS; Water, Sanitation and Hygiene; Nutrition; Education; Child Protection; and Social Inclusion. Country Offices in East Asia Pacific region implement the GAP with support of the regional office.
The Gender Section, UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office, is seeking the services of a Communications and Digital Media Consultant to assist in the development of innovative gender materials and knowledge products showcasing good practice in gender equality programming, including videos, social media posts, project briefs, digital newsletter and other communication resources. Tasks involve storyboard development, scripting and creation of video recordings, using animation and voice over; graphic design and posting of social media communications; design and editing of online and offline products and infographics, for advocacy and visibility purposes.
Work Assignment:
Under the supervision of the UNICEF EAPRO Regional Gender Advisor the Communication Consultant will develop video clips, social media inputs, infographics and a series of knowledge products to promote gender programming and exemplify good practice. The consultant will collaborate with EAPRO staff and consultants, as directed by the Gender Advisor, and liaise with Country Office sector staff as required.
Creation of gender programming good practice videos, for sector programme teams, including: design and scripting of (up to three) short good practice videos, approximately 5 minutes in length; liaising with UNICEF country office colleagues and partners to supply inputs/video clips and interview segments; assembling and editing of video content;
Development and production of a short animation (whiteboard-style or other) to illustrate the Gender Action Plan, achievements/highlights in the region, and outlook towards 2030, including storyboard development, animation, and finalization;
Design and edit gender knowledge products, including the monthly regional gender newsletter, field/technical notes, etc; translate gender data, gender research and evidence into infographics; develop social media contributions to promote gender equality within UNICEF EAPRO and with stakeholders; and perform gender knowledge management tasks for country offices in the region.
Work Schedule:
Work assignments will be agreed upon with the Regional Gender Advisor on a monthly basis.
Deliverables: The consultant will prepare monthly reports on activities undertaken and completed against work assignments.
Estimated Duration of Contract: 40 working days over a period of 4 months
Official Travel: Home based with attendance at meetings in the regional office in Bangkok; travel to country offices in the East Asia Pacific region may be necessary.
Qualifications or Specialized Knowledge/Experience Required:
Bachelor degree in Communication, Film, Media, Graphic Design or related fields.
Skills in graphic design, visualising and communicating concepts effectively.
Technical expertise in video clip production, editing, social media and graphic design.
Understanding of gender equality and women’s human rights is a must.
Experience working with United Nations or other international civil society organisations an advantage.
Fluency in English.
