In Uganda, we implement programmes in five thematic programme areas of Child Protection, Child Rights Governance, Education, Child Poverty, Health and Nutrition in development and emergency contexts. Save the Children delivers programs in over 36 districts in the North, Rwenzori, North-Eastern and Central regions of Uganda, Currently, Save the Children has a staff complement of over 220 persons. Save the Children Uganda Country Office is looking to recruit for the following positions:

Project Coordinator – Keep it Real (1 Position) Central Region, Kampala

Job Purpose

Reporting the Program Manager Keep it Real, the job holder takes responsibility for the implementation, monitoring and evaluation and reporting on the Project. He/she will support the Senior Officers and Local Project Implementing partners to deliver project outputs in a timely manner, while maintaining close consultation with the Line Manager. In addition; the job holder will execute Save the Children's specific contribution to Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) is; 1) Catalyse rapid access to information by focusing on knowledge, attitudes and skills at scale in rural and urban areas; 2) Uptake of teaching materials through innovations, such as user friendly materials to complement curricular activities, e-learning for Teachers and a web-based platform for social media and confidential youth discourse; 3) Action and sustainability through evidence generated by targeted operations research and routine monitoring and evaluation; 4) Youth-inclusive policy development process and defining of programming priorities, so the voices of trained youth advocates are clearly heard, appreciated and listened to, leading to policy reform so all children and young people have access to CSE through schools and community based structures; 5) Coordination so all key actors involved in providing CSE to young people (from the school level, health service level and community based organizations) are unified in best practices and use age-disaggregated messages that tackle the social determinants of sexual and reproductive health, such as power and gender norms; 6) Improved connections to health services through youth-led health service mapping and facilitated visits to health centers to accelerate young people's self-efficacy and ability to access SRH services. The Coordinator may also be called upon as and when necessary to support the emergency team in cases of humanitarian crisis.

Academic back ground, Experience & Person Specifications;

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Health related field, Demography or Social Science, Development Studies or related field or equivalent accrued working experience, with skills and experience in Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS programming, Gender Based Violence and Norming is a distinct advantage
  • Postgraduate training in Health related field, Demography, Population Studies or Management is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 4 years relevant working experience with at least 2 years at middle management level in an international NGO.

General specifications applicable to all positions;

  • Experience of working with local partners and District Local Government in Child Rights Governance, Health, Nutrition, Education, HIV/AIDS or Child Protection is an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.
  • Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.
  • Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to intervene with crisis management or troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
  • Excellent time management and planning capacity.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
