The Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE)

The Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) is a global network of organizations that propel entrepreneurship in emerging markets. ANDE members provide critical financial, educational, and business support services to small and growing businesses (SGBs) based on the conviction that SGBs will create jobs, stimulate long-term economic growth, and produce environmental and social benefits. Ultimately, we believe that SGBS can help lift countries out of poverty.

Members of ANDE include both for and nonprofit investment funds, capacity development providers, research and academic institutions, development finance institutions and corporations from around the world. Launched with 34 members in 2009, ANDE now comprises over 260 members who collectively operate in more than 150 countries.

ANDE is part of the Aspen Institute, an educational and policy studies organization based in Washington, DC and also has offices in Brazil, India, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, and South Africa.

East and Southeast Asia Chapter Manager

You like to think of yourself as a professional matchmaker. You excel at quickly understanding individual and organizational needs and interests and making sure that the right people are talking to each other. If multi-tasking was an Olympic sport, you’d be a gold medal contender. Given a flip chart, some post-it notes, and a room full of passionate people – you can pretty easily come up with and implement a plan that everyone is excited to be part of. You thrive in a start-up environment. You can pivot on a dime, and often can’t sleep until a problem is addressed. You love the idea that your organizational and networking skills could contribute to a better livelihood for entrepreneurs throughout East and Southeast Asia.

ANDE is seeking a Regional Chapter Manager to develop and kick start the strategy for the expansion of the ANDE network in East and Southeast Asia. We currently have an ANDE East and Southeast Asia (ANDE ESEA) Regional Chapter which is supported by a volunteer steering committee. We would like to catalyze the chapter by opening an office in the region, and are looking for support in launching and managing local operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Launch operations for ANDE’s East and Southeast Asia (ESEA) chapter office. Working closely with ANDE’s global staff, a local Steering Committee, donors and other stakeholders, design and implement a work plan that supports the growth of the small and growing business (SGB) sector in the region.
  • Manage the budget and all local operations for the chapter.
  • Develop and implement a long term fundraising strategy for the chapter (initial seed funding has been raised).
  • Develop a deep level of engagement with existing members, while also recruiting new members to the network.
  • Develop ANDE as the go-to place for all things related to small and growing businesses in the sector, and become a recognized expert and thought leader in your own right.
  • Manage events and communications for the chapter
  • Over time, build and manage a small team

Knowledge, Education, and Experience

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have significant experience and appreciation for the complexities of network building.
  • Have an existing track record in developing and managing operations for a locally based non-profit or small business.
  • Bring a relevant network of contacts in at least two countries in the region.
  • Thrive in a startup environment, where the onus is on you to make it work.
  • Be comfortable meeting with senior level government officials and high level donors – but also prepared to make the coffee and print nametags for events.
  • Have 6-10 years’ experience in partnership development, strategic and operational planning, project management and/or stakeholder management.
  • Able to travel up to 40% of the time within the region and internationally. Comfortable working non-traditional hours with an organization headquartered in the United States (meaning many late night and/or early morning calls or meetings)
  • Fluency in English is required. Experience studying or working in the US, or another international market, highly preferred.
  • The role will be based in Bangkok, Thailand after an initial training period in our Washington, DC office.**How to Apply / Contact**
