Description:
FHI 360 is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Chief of Party (COP) for an anticipated USAID-funded project in Uganda. The project will work to enable vulnerable households in Uganda to improve nutrition and achieve sustainable food and livelihood security.
The COP will provide overall technical and management leadership to the design and implementation of the project, leading a team comprised of other senior-level staff. The expected duration of the project is five years and it is expected that the position will be based in Kampala. Availability of this position is contingent upon release of a solicitation (RFA/RFP) by USAID and recruitment is contingent upon successful award of the project to FHI 360 and final USAID approval of the candidate.
Job Summary / Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the overall planning, implementation and management of the project as well as the achievement of the goals and objectives of the project in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Maintain an integrated vision and approach for the project in achieving the results as defined in the award, while maintaining overall excellence and accountability to beneficiaries and USAID.
- Lead the planning of all project activities and set high quality performance targets ensuring adherence to technical standards, best practices and donor guidelines.
- Liaise between USAID/Uganda and all other counterparts, implementing partners and Government of Uganda officials involved with the program.
- Ensure project activities adhere to USAID and country office management policies and practices
- Produce and present papers at local, regional and international fora to share experiences and emerging best practices.
- Oversee/manage partnerships and ensure strong lines of communication and collaboration are established and maintained.
- Oversee a team of senior technical, financial and program management staff for the project and ensure strong communication and coordination with and between all team members, and with relevant staff in HQ and the East and Southern Africa Business Unit.
- Ensure financial and grants management compliance with FHI 360 and USAID rules and regulations.
- Ensure timely, high-quality and complete submission of work plans, quarterly and annual reports, financial reports, and any other reports required by USAID.
- Promote sustainability of project activities with effective networking, linkages to other programs, capacity building of project staff, and institutional strengthening of implementing partners and community-based organizations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree Required and Master’s Degree preferred or similar degree with 15 years of program management experience, preferably in nutrition and livelihoods:
- At least 5+ years of management experience and the direct supervision of professional and support staff for international development programs; or
- At least 5+ years of Chief of Party experience on a USAID -funded health project
- Familiarity with and experience working in Uganda
- Demonstrated understanding of how gender dynamics influence programming;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to work independently with initiative to manage high volume work flow;
- Relevant computer software skills (including, at a minimum, the standard applications in MS Office).
