Plan International has operated in Thailand since 1981. There are four main country programs in the current Country Strategic Plan, namely Child Protection, Education for Economic Security, HIV / AIDs Risk Reduction and Protection, and Local Capacity Development for Sustainability.

Plan International currently covers 14 provinces with approximately 15,000 sponsored children and their families in two provinces: Chiangmai and Chiangrai.

Since 2007 Plan Thailand has mobilized approximately 19m Euro of funding for its programs from sponsorship and grants.

The Role

As Country Director you will be responsible for the Leadership, management and development of Plan Thailand team currently comprising of approximately 50 staff. 6 staff report directly to the CD.

You will also have responsibility of the Country Office Budget. Currently the annual budget is approximately 3.5 m Euro of which 52% is from grants and 48% from Sponsorship. Managing a grants portfolio including relationships with key donors, including corporates forms a crucial part of the role.

You will be expected to oversee the consolidation and focus of Plan’s program in poorer provinces with marginalised and excluded communities.

As a member of the Regional Leadership Team, the Country Director of Thailand is expected to contribute to the overall learning and strategic direction within the Asia region. This includes sharing experience of program development and learning and working in a disaster-prone environment.

Do you have what it takes?

In this demanding and varied role the successful applicant will require demonstrable knowledge on the key debates in development and emergency response methods and effectiveness, particularly about rights-based programming for child rights. You will also require In-depth knowledge of security risk management and associated principles.

Natural disasters are recurrent every year in Thailand and appear to be growing in number and the severity of their impact; emergency preparedness and response is a key priority; The CD will need to ensure Plan Thailand is ready to respond to emergency conditions in a timely and effective manner whilst balancing this against the long-term development programming.

Knowledge of the requirements of donor compliance and financial management is essential.

Proven experience in the development and management of effective and motivated teams, including distance management is also required

Type of Role: 5 year fixed term contract

Location: Based in the Country Office, located in Bangkok, with extensive local and some international travel

Reports to: Regional Director – Asia Region

Salary: Circa $75,000 USD per annum plus benefits
