Primary Tasks:
(1) Assist asylum-seekers in applications for refugee recognition with UNHCR in Bangkok, by:
a. Assisting clients in preparing statements;
b. Preparing briefs in support of applications;
c. Conducting legal research related to refugees and on specific issues or themes;
d. Conducting country of origin information research;
(2) Maintain and regularly update client records in accordance with BPSOS standards;
(3) Coordinate with service providers and liaise with additional support contacts as necessary; and
(4) Assist on refugee advocacy projects as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Law degree or currently enrolled in law school;
- Excellent research and legal writing skills;
- Experience conducting interviews and working with interpreters;
- Fluency in English; Vietnamese and Khmer language skills highly valuable;
- Willingness to learn on the job and and be a self-starter;
- Flexibility and being a good team player;
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Compensation:
The internship is unpaid.
