Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) is currently inviting women from Asia and Pacific Island countries with relevant experience and skills to apply for a Programme Officer. This is an exciting position that would allow the successful applicant to be part of a strong movement of women engaging with and shaping international and regional mechanisms policies and structures.
APWLD is a regional network of women’s organisations and activists in Asia Pacific, committed to advancing women’s rights and advancing a more equitable, just and sustainable world. APWLD’s members are drawn from 27 countries and the secretariat is based in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
The Programme Officer will be responsible for coordinating APWLDs international advocacy within our Grounding the Global programme. The successful candidate will closely work with APWLD membership, particularly the organizing committee responsible for the programme. The position will report directly to the Regional Coordinator of APWLD.
Selection Criteria
Essential
Demonstrated commitment to the promotion of women’s human rights and Development Justice in Asia Pacific;
A degree in law, human rights, or women’s studies;
Knowledge of international human rights and development issues in Asia Pacific and globally;
Knowledge of international and regional inter-governmental mechanisms and instruments;
In-depth understanding of international human rights and development mechanisms and processes, including with the UN General Assembly (such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development) and Human Rights Council;
In-depth understanding of the political, economic and socio-cultural environments in the region and the way they impact women’s human rights;
Minimum of five years experience in development work and women’s rights at the national, regional level or international level;
High level project management skills including programme planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Demonstrated experience of network coordination and supervising staff, interns or volunteers can be an asset;
Qualitative research skills and a capacity to analyse and critique economic and social policies;
Excellent command of English language, both oral and written and demonstrated ability to write for movements as well as program reports and project proposals;
Good interpersonal skills, with ability to network in a multi-cultural environment and to develop strong professional relationships with members and other stakeholders;
Proficient computer skills;
Must be able to travel overseas as required.
Remuneration Salary range commences at THB 51,750 per month. Other benefits include contributions to employment pension fund; housing allowance, education allowance for children, 13th month salary and relocation allowances for staff required to re-locate to Chiang Mai.
A probationary period of four months applies.
