Job Summary

Based in the SIHA office in Kampala, the Programmes Assistant will specifically support and provide assistance in all the operations of the Secretariat Programmes. Working directly with), Regional Programmes Officer (RPO), Project Coordinator and collaborating with all SIHA programme team. The PA will support programme reporting and monitoring, conducting local-level data collection and establishing a link between SIHA projects and the targeted communities in Uganda. The ‘PA’ will coordinate elements of the programme occurring in and around the targeted communities in Uganda as directed by SIHA Regional Programmes Officer.

The PA will take on a primary role in organizing project related meeting, writing reports, reviewing partner and correspond with partners in the field as directed by the programmes team. The PA will also contribute to project planning and reporting and grant writing as needed. The PA will provide work-related support and facilitate work tasks delegated by and SIHA Regional programmes officer and Projects Coordinator

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

· Work closely with the programme team to support implementation of projects; support project monitoring, monitoring project work plans, following up on donor reporting deadlines for Uganda Projects. .

· Periodically monitor and amend programmes work plans, and ensure timeliness and effectiveness of activities to be conducted;

· As requested, contribute to the project planning, grant writing, and other programme-related tasks;

· Make contributions towards SIHA’s engagements, communications and capacity building of our grassroots partners across the region. Focusing mainly on dedicated women activists, grassroots and youth groups and advocates for women’s rights, equality, political and social empowerment;

· Assist the Regional team in the implementation of day to day programme work through setting up discussions, meetings and overall engagement in programme activities, engaging with stakeholders at the local level;

· Taking part in the monitoring and evaluation field visits and documenting the outcomes of these meetings in an organized format and filed appropriately.

· Undertake any other tasks as assigned by the Regional Programmes Officer, and the overall Programmes and management team.

Profile

The candidate for this position should have strong knowledge and understanding of Uganda , strong knowledge of the Horn of Africa is an added advantage, specifically, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Somaliland, Djibouti, Kenya and Ethiopia. A commitment to women’s rights and the principles of gender equality and interest in social movements is essential, with proven track-record on right-based programming being a precondition for shortlisting. SIHA will be interested in individual applicants with commitment to indigenous civil society organizations and their essential role in promoting the improvement of conditions for women and girls across the Horn of Africa.

Other Requirements

a) University-level Bachelor’s Degree in human rights, women’s rights, project management, development / humanitarian studies, gender studies, law, or a related field, a Master’s degree is an added bonus;

b) Expressed interest in gender and women’s rights / empowerment and improving conditions for women and girls in the Horn of Africa;

c) Hard-worker, with ability to put in extra hours during peak periods of activity;

d) Proven knowledge of local-level political / social / cultural dynamics;

e) Punctual, attentive, and enthusiastic;
